Finding Joy in a Rainy Day

Easter Sunday was gorgeous! Sunny, warm, bright. The perfect spring day. And then Monday came. Cold, rain, gray. But that didn’t dampen the spirits of my little one. He was excited to wear his rain boots to school and he wore them all day even though it rained too much for playground time. When we got home, all he wanted to do was jump in puddles. So we did.

We walked our neighborhood looking for puddles and “creeks” to play in. With the help of his big sister, he stomped around in steady stream of rainwater, raced leaves down a neighbor’s yard and splashed so big he got his own face wet! All I could see was pure joy! Giggles. Running. Fun. No one complained about being wet or cold. No fussing and fighting. No teen complaints. No toddler whining. It was such a bright contrast to the day around us.

Monday was everything that Sunday wasn’t. How often is life like that? Sunny one day and gray the next. And oh, how those gray days affect me. It’s so easy to focus on what’s going on and miss the joy in the puddles. I’m so thankful for this brief moment with my babies and how the Lord uses them to teach me.
