Summer Self-Care for LIFE

My toddler is stuck on Disney’s Frozen. Y’all when it came out in 2013, my (now almost 13 year old daughter) was obsessed! We had all the things! Dolls, clothes, blankets, party themes….EVERYTHING! But now, it’s making its second run through our family with my 3 year old son. He loves Olaf and the music. Every time “Let It Go” begins, he says “Sings with me.” Yes, we’ve had quite a few sing-a-longs lately. But I also can’t help being drawn to Olaf’s obsession with summer.

Summer is such a great time of year for our family! School’s out for all of us and (in a typical year) my husband has summer camps and youth activities planned. Because the my school duties have temporarily ended, I get to be much more active with him in ministry. And while I’m still SO excited for summer, it admittedly looks very different this year. No summer camps. No youth activities. No social gatherings. But with the stress we’ve both been under to lead and teach remotely over the last several months, we need a break. We need a time to recharge. We need self-care.

I think of all the professions deemed essential over the last several months and the parents who’ve become crisis educators and facilitators. The self-employed business owners who have watched their businesses close (some for good) because of stay-at-home orders. One thing is certain, there’s a lot of folks out there that need some self-care!

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to hear these OolaGuys speak and what they taught really changed the way I view balance in my life. According to their website, they travel the world collecting dreams and helping people find balance and growth in the 7 key areas of life (the 7 F’s of Oola) – Fitness, Finance, Family, Field (career), Faith, Friends, and Fun. I only mention them because I can’t take credit for the structure I’m using to organize. Balancing the areas of life can reduce stress so it’s essential to think about self-care in all areas of our life.

So before we jump in to the various areas this week, here’s a free printable for tracking and balancing your self-care this summer!
