Memorial Day Memories

My husband grew up in a military area. As the son of a minister, he saw people come and go through the church because they were stationed at the nearby base. He saw his friends’ parents shipped off for months at a time to serve overseas. He saw parades of troops coming home from war. He saw copies of his dad’s sermons sent all over the world to people deployed. His memories are different from my own because his life was directly touched by men and women who’ve served our country.

So I have to ask, how can we honor the lives of those who’ve served? How can we bring the respect to all members of our military?

  • Reach out to families in your neighborhood and help military spouses and families.
  • Respect our veterans and teach younger generations to do so too.
  • Simple things like holding the door or thanking them verbally. Pay for a meal when you’re able.
  • Write cards or send care packages to active military members. There are several organizations that can help!

While we’re enjoying a day off from work and firing up the grill, let’s remember that families remember their loved ones who sacrificed everything to protect us and our ideals.

What does your family do to honor our servicemen and women?
